I bring expertise in areas like service design, information architecture, and systems thinking from over 20 years in the field, beginning my career working in front-end web development. These days, when I work on projects, it's mostly advising senior leaders like CTOs and CIOs, connecting the dots across silos to reimagine and implement ideas.

I lead design at 18F, a digital services agency within the federal government. I manage one of the largest design teams in government, with over 35 designers, researchers, content strategists and design engineers working cross-functionally with our colleagues to modernize complex systems, strategies and methods of working in technology.

Outside of work, my personal research practice looks critically at service design, focusing on the interaction layers of everyday experiences. Outside of work, I research and speak globally on how technology has upended civic life through a framework called consequence design.

I joke with friends that all of my hobbies are jobs, but my lens of the world compels me to work on making things a bit better when I can. I'm currently President of the board of AIGA Portland, coach high school tennis, and teach part-time at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
