About

I'm passionate about experience strategy (user, customer & beyond), service design thinking and product management. I've worked everywhere from New York City to rural Wyoming. With sites serving millions of users to stewarding resources for smaller institutions. As a result, I've had first-hand experience with use cases across the spectrum and it's provided me with deep empathy that informs my work.

I lead a ragtag band of independent strategists at Nordic Strategy Lab named after the Helsinki school of strategic design, the philosophical foundation for what informs my own thinking on design & strategy.

In 2014, I launched Aggregate Conference after friends & I talked about a heavily curated event that focused on people not tracks. (The event sold out its first year.) A friend & I co-founded a movie blog on Tumblr ("Hey You Should Watch This Movie") with over 99k followers. In 2012, I created Higher Ed Solo with Tonya Oaks Smith, a blog for web workers in solo environments and small teams.

Some of my other pursuits include a shoe brand (named Omnivore) partnership with a Chinese firm. For several years, I was one of about 100 or so people in the world who maintained a computer ranking algorithm for major college football. I was policy director for a tech-focused non-profit called Future Wyoming. I put on a game designer hat, in creating the first racquet sport played on a field Tennis Polo. In the 90s, I co-founded a real-time RPG government simulation with players from around the world. I also coached college & high school tennis, spent six summers as a director at summer camps in New England & spent four years on the active duty in the Air Force.

I have a penchant for loose-leaf teas, hard bop jazz, shoegaze records & libraries. I root for the Toronto Blue Jays, New Jersey Devils, New York Jets, Portland Timbers, Swansea City & Toluca F.C.
